A Cotswolds History

The Mill House Hotel is ideally located in the heart of the Oxfordshire Cotswolds between Chipping Norton and Stow-on-the-Wold, an area combining extraordinary richness of history, heritage, and glorious architecture with the most beautiful rolling countryside and outstanding natural beauty.

The Hotel is set in ten acres of beautifully maintained lawned gardens with its own trout stream, the Cornwell Brook, and dates back to the Domesday Book of 1086. The current mill was built in 1770 and has recently been superbly refurbished and sympathetically extended to provide 10 luxurious king-sized en-suite bedrooms with a further 13 double/twin en-suite rooms.

The stone floor in reception dates back to the original mill recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. It contains an original fire pump and stone flagons from when the Mill was the Kingham village inn.

The spacious public lounge offers a quiet retreat in which to enjoy morning coffee, afternoon tea or simply to browse through local books and magazines. A log fire blazes in our Lounge Bar during the winter months and French windows open out on the terrace overlooking the trout stream in summer for light lunches, afternoon teas and suppers under the 100 year old walnut tree.

An original Mill register is open in the lounge with a set of scales used to weigh off the flour in Victorian times.

The grandfather clock is from 1770, the year in which the 'new' Mill was built.

The bar is in the original grinding room. The inglenook fireplace and heavy oak beams ensure an atmosphere full of historic character.
